Notes: Sunbow's Crimson Guardsmen wore the 1985 outfit, with dark grey faceplates for better detail, and their black gloves extended halfway to the elbows. CG's often slung their bayonet rifles across their backs. The Alley Viper character in Operation Dragonfire began the story as a Crimson Guard, wearing the 1985 outfit with a larger visor, yellow trim, no gloves, and an enlarged Cobra emblem, and Scoop later wore the outfit, but without the helmet. The 1989 outfit appeared animated in the Python Patrol ad, with a red belt. Spy Troops: The Movie used its own high-tech, streamlined design both for real Crimson Guardsmen and for Agent Faces' disguise.

Headcanon

Crimson Guardsmen were introduced to the Cobra forces in 1982, with their appearance represented by Version 11. The basic CG Troopers originally served under Squad Leaders and Officers, but these ranks were replaced respectively by Immortals and Commanders in late 1986. All ranks of the Crimson Guard were represented by Version 7 by 1991.

The Crimson Guard are the elite shock troops of the COBRA Legions. All "Siegies" must hold a degree in either law or accounting as well as being in top physical condition. Final stages of training take place in the deepest recesses of COBRA Headquarters and is purported to involve an initiation ceremony too hideous for description.
"Crimson Guardsmen are too precious to be wasted on the conventional battle field. They are dispersed about the country in deep cover, assuming apparently normal appearances and life-styles. Watch out. That friendly new neighbor of yours just might have a red uniform hanging in his closet."
Variations: The sides of the backpack may be solid or hollow on the inside. The hollow version is rarer. Early filecards list the secondary military specialty as Demolition and require only college graduation rather than a degree in law or accounting.

"This guy is too precious to be wasted on the conventional battle field. He is usually dispersed throughout the country, assuming an apparently normal appearance and life-style. Watch out. That friendly new neighbor of yours just might have a snake skin Python Patrol uniform hanging in his closet. . ."
Toy Notes: Item #6623-4. The 1989 insert catalog shows a red backpack instead of a black one.

The CRIMSON GUARD troopers are elite shock troops of the COBRA legions. Each must hold a degree in either law or accounting as well as being in top physical condition. After rigorous trianing in COBRA combat and tactics, each "Siegie" undergoes plastic surgery (performed by the COBRA surgeon SCALPEL so that each trooper will look similar. Afterward, each is given their new asisgnment: a new life, in a new city. CRIMSON GUARD troops are too precious to be wasted on the conventional battlefield and are instead expected to become valued members of the community, to climb the political and corporate ladder into positions of importance. Forming this force is thought to be one of the first actions of COBRA COMMANDER after he formed COBRA; the "Siegie" network may have been in place already for more than 10 years. At least two, and perhaps more, prominent members of Congress (and dozens of lobbyists) are rumored to be "Siegies" in deep undercover. Watch out. That town mayor of yours might just have a red uniform hanging in his closet!

The PYTHON CRIMSON GUARD force is the crème de la crème of shock troopers. They must be college graduates and in top physical condition. The PYTHON CRIMSON GUARD trooper is master at infiltration and sabotage. His function is to spy on his fellow troopers and report all violations of COBRA policy to the PYTHON PATROL commander. Too precious to be wasted on the conventional battlefield, they are dispersed throughout the country and assume a normal appearance and lifestyle. Even within the PYTHON CRIMSON GUARD, they present themselves as steadfast members while secretly noting any displays of disloyalty to the COBRA organization.
"Watch out! That friendly new neighbor of yours just might have a snakeskin PYTHON PATROL uniform hanging in his closet..."

The CRIMSON GUARD are the elite shock troops of the COBRA legions. All "Siegies" must hold a degree in either law or accounting and must be in top physical condition. Final stages of training take place in the deepest recesses of COBRA headquarters and are purported to involve an initiation ceremony too hideous to describe. A regiment of infantry-level CRIMSON GUARD troopers is maintained for attack and defense. If these infantry troopers show ingenuity and intelligence in the field, they have an opportunity for advanced training or special assignments in elite COBRA assault squads.
"We are everywhere, so watch out. That friendly new neighbor of yours might just have a red uniform hanging in his closet..."
