Notes: Sunbow's Torpedo had a suit very different from his 1983 outfit: He wore a skin-tight blue-black wet suit without the grey trim of the figure. In ARAH and Cobra Stops the World, his hood was white; elsewhere it was black with a white stripe on top. The white-rimmed goggles and airmask were detachable. No gloves, and his backpack was large and square. He also wore blue jeans and a white T-shirt when on land, and wore Wet-Suit's uniform (sans helmet) in Computer Complications. Sunbow portrayed Torpedo as a jocular type, as a foil to Deep Six and in contrast to his filecards. In The Gamesmaster, the Joe team that captured Zartan wore wet suits identical to Torpedo's. The yellow outfit represented by Version 8 was commonly worn by other Joes during marine operations but was never seen on Torpedo himself. Reel FX's Chief Torpedo was based on the 2003 figure.

Torpedo is in a league of his own, and he like it that way. He was the first choice to represent the Navy within the G.I. Joe team. As an elite S.E.A.L., he can swim up to 100 yards without scuba tanks, carrying half his weight in underwater explosives. Proficient in three martial art styles, he lives a disciplined life as a strict vegetarian. A highly competent professional in his field, Torpedo's only drawback is his lack of personality. He prefers the company of the ocean, and he really hates pollution. You have to give respect to a guy that can go up against a squad of COBRA Eels, bare-handed, and leave them as fish food. When the G.I. Joe team was closed down by the government, Torpedo continued in service as an Under Water Demolitions instructor. He instituted new methods, and made it the program to enroll in. When he heard the G.I. Joe team was re-organizing its members, Torpedo promptly returned. Using the stealth of darkness, Torpedo silently floats into enemy territory with his Night Landing S.E.A.L. Raft.
From General Hawk's Files: "If discipline is the key, Torpedo is the lock. Torpedo's talent in underwater demolitions is extraordinary. When he sets his mind to something, nothing stands in his way. I've never seen anybody hold their breath as long as this guy either. I value his judgement and his skills."
Toy Notes: Carded in a Toys 'R Us-exclusive vehicle pack with a recolor of the Night Landing. Item #28013.
Version 3: summer 1998 figure three-pack assortment

Accessories: black speargun (92 Wet-Suit's), black helmet with blue and yellow details (92 Wet-Suit's), black pair of flippers (92 Wet-Suit's), black figure stand (common).
Torpedo is a no-nonsense, by the book, stand-by-the-regs Navy S.E.A.L.. He was the first S.E.A.L. ever assigned to the G.I. Joe Team, and he regards that with considerable pride. He has the personality of a cold fish, but given that he's in charge of this three-man S.E.A.L. unit, which includes a loose cannon like Wet-Suit and a wild card like Shipwreck, Torpedo's aloof personality is the only thing that can keep the other two in line and functioning as a team. When not on a mission against COBRA, Torpedo puts his team through the same kind of strenuous training that he himself has always maintained.
From General Hawk's Files: "I don't know of anyone that would regard Torpedo as a close personal friend. He's a strict vegetarian, and tends to grow his own food, so you don't even see him socializing in the mess hall. The best thing anyone says about him is that he's a 'highly competent professional.' But in this business, that's high praise and he knows it. He is completely committed to the task at hand at all times, and actually manages to keep Wet-Suit and Shipwreck in line most of the time."
Motto: "Discipline is the key on land or under the sea."
Toy Notes: Carded in a Toys 'R Us-exclusive Navy Assault Unit three-pack with Shipwreck and Wet-Suit. Item #57066.

U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.s are the toughest of the tough, and CHIEF TORPEDO may be tougher than all the rest. He goes out on a five mile run and does a hundred push-ups before breakfast, and after that he starts the serious training. Dropped from a moving helicopter into deep water, he can swim to shore with a hundred pound pack full of weapons, run cross-country for ten miles, and still be back at headquarters in time for dinner at the mess.
CHIEF TORPEDO has no sense of humor, no bad habits and amazingly enough, still manages to have friends and enjoy their company. He spends his spare time reading technical manuals and working on his vintage '68 muscle car. His fellow G.I. JOE team members respect him for his professionalism and skills, avoid sparring with him during hand-to-hand combat drill, and keep their distance when he shortens the fuses on his grenades.
