Cobra Pilot

Previous character: Iron Grenadier Trooper
Next character: Trakker

Animated Appearances

To my knowledge, Cobra Pilots of this sort were never animated.

Headcanon

Cobra Pilots were part of Cobra's forces from the beginning. Without much more training than ground-based Cobra Troopers, their usefulness diminished upon the establishment of the Air Viper Corps in 1982. In late 1986, Cobra Pilots who wished to continue their service were combined with those Air Vipers who were not qualified to serve as AVACs or Strato-Vipers. These pilots were then surgicially enhanced to become the new Vapor unit.

COBRA air troopers are basic infantry "grunts" with wings. They're one step below COBRA VIPER troops (who never let them forget this difference in rank), so they always figure they have nothing to lose nd everything to gain in battle. They're trained in ground and air combat, then provided with just enough pilot training to get them flying. Like ravenous mosquitoes on a summer's night, COBRA air troopers swoop down upon their targets. Their only thought is to prove their mettle so that a higher-ranking officer (or perhaps COBRA COMMANDER himself) notices their fearlessness and skill—and promotes them.
"We swear absolute loyalty to our leader, COBRA COMMANDER. When he conquers the world, we will also reap the riches of his conquest."
Toy Notes: Boxed with Cobra Viper (08/II), a retooled FANG vehicle, and a slightly miniaturized CLAW vehicle. Item #33557.
