On an island, Shipwreck and Lady Jaye seek out Prof. Mullaney, who has escaped from Cobra with knowledge of a formula that can turn water into an explosive. He uses a neurolink to hide the formula in Shipwreck's subconscious, able to be recalled with a code word he whispers to Lady Jaye. Cobra attacks as they return to the U.S.S. Flagg. The professor disappears on the island, and just as Lady Jaye makes it onto the Flagg, the S.H.A.R.C. sinks with Shipwreck still inside.

Shipwreck wakes up in a hospital and is told he suffered a household accident. His beard is grey, Mara is his wife, and he has a daughter. The last six years of his memory evidently lost, he is told he was instrumental in the final defeat of Cobra. At home, he suffers bad dreams of interrogation, in between awkward encounters with other former Joes. He is jumped by strangers, arrested, and dropped from his jail cell into a cellar where his Joe friends fight him. The Joes melt as he fights them, and their remains form a blob that carries him away.
