Red Rocket's Glare

16th of 55 episodes in Sunbow season 1. Written by Mary Skrenes. First aired September 24, 1985.

Previous episode: Cobra's Candidate
Next episode: Satellite Down

Destro receives the final piece needed to complete an explosive device, but the Joes follow the courier to Cobra's base and overrun it. Destro escapes with his weapon and delivers it to Cobra's leaders in a location where a small town is being constructed. Some time later, Roadblock and Recondo are on leave and visit Roadblock's Uncle Caleb and Aunt Sarah, who have bought a Red Rocket drive-in restaurant. A biker gang has been scaring off customers, and the couple is under pressure to sell their diner back. The two Joes drive off the biker gang, who are revealed to be working for Extensive Enterprises. The presence of G.I. Joe prompts Cobra to escalate their attempt to recover the diner.

Cobra attacks the diner and is driven off by the Joes, but Flint and Lady Jaye fail to learn Cobra's plans after visiting Enterprise Tower. Cobra Commander then makes a broadcast threatening to destroy major U.S. cities, using the recently constructed small town to demonstrate the power of Destro's new explosives. The broadcast leads the Joes to discover that the rockets mounted on the diners are real, and they spend the night taking out all the rocket sites. Roadblock is on top of his family's diner's rocket when it launches, but Flint launches a missile to knock off the rocket's warhead so that it lands harmlessly. Roadblock's family renames their restaurant and treats the Joes to a celebratory meal.
