Notes: Sunbow's Doc wore his 1983 outfit, often without his helmet, and his belt usually lacked the white pouches. Despite his filecard, Doc was not identified as a pacifist on the cartoon. That role went to Lifeline, although Doc was rarely shown operating any form of weaponry.

Headcanon

Born August 9, 1950. Doc was one of the first additions to the Joe Team, joining in March 1981. His appearance is represented by Version 2. Doc served with the Joes until they were disbanded in December 1989, but he was not recalled when the Joes were reactivated in 1991.

Graduated from Harvard Medical School, completed residency at Johns Hopkins. Hoped for a guarantee of a G.I. Joe assignment upon enlistment. Told flatly that the Army made no such deals. Doc enlisted anyway and achieved his goal through ordinary channels. Graduated Airborne School, Mountaineering School, and Desert Training Unit.
An avowed pacifist, Doc believes that "the G.I. Joe team is the best we have. We send them into the worst situations imaginable because that's where we need them most. When the going gets rough, they need something more than a pill-roller. I'm their main man!"
Toy Notes: Featured in 1983's Polar Battle Bear commercial. In the 1983 catalog, Doc lacks both the cross on his right shoulder and the strap on his flare launcher. Item #6415.
Re-releases: Given the J.C. Penney's exclusive three-pack releases for all other 82-83 carded Joes, there should have been one with Doc, Airborne (83), and Gung-Ho (83), but I haven't heard mention of one. Also available through the mail offer Original Adventure Team in 1986. A slightly different version was released in Argentina as S.O.S.
