Long Live Rock and Roll, Part 1

6th of 20 episodes in DiC season 2. Written by Doug Booth. First aired October 2, 1991.

Previous episode: Kindergarten Commandos
Next episode: Long Live Rock and Roll, Part 2

Cobra Air Commandos kidnap two acoustic engineers, then snatch up rock star Billy Blaster during a concert. After a short road chase, Psyche Out, Tracker, and Rock 'n Roll follow Billy over water using Battle Copters. They lose him in a series of tunnels, where their copters are disabled by Cobra's new sonic weapon. They use their sonic packs to counteract the weapon and escape the tunnels in Tracker's raft. Meanwhile, the Interrogator oversees the captured scientists' work on sonic weapons, telling Billy it is part of a secret government project.

As the Joes locate Cobra's towering Sonic Headquarters, Metal-Head grows jealous of Billy and steals his guitar. The confrontation leads to Billy falling from the top of the tower, but the Joes miss their chance to rescue him as he is caught by Major Bludd and returned to the base via Road Pig's private zoo. Cobra Commander then makes a TV broadcast threatening to use the new sonic weapon to destroy New York City if he does not receive ten billion dollars. For his demonstration, Cobra's tower is used as an amplifier as Billy rocks out, destroying a skyscraper under construction.

Misc. Notes

  • On the DVDs from Shout! Factory, this episode is included in the Series 2, Season 2 set (Disc 1, Episode 6)
  • First appearances (in order): Night Vultures, Psyche-Out; the Rat
  • Skymate is mentioned in the episode but does not appear.
  • Cobra's Sonic Headquarters is labeled with the name Extensive Enterprises, the corporation run by Tomax and Xamot in the Sunbow series. Hawk's comment that he thought "that dump was torn down years ago" seems to imply the Crimson Twins have fallen on hard times.
