Arise, Serpentor, Arise! Part 5

5th of 30 episodes in Sunbow season 2. Story by Buzz Dixon, Teleplay by Ron Friedman. First aired September 19, 1986.

Previous episode: Arise, Serpentor, Arise! Part 4
Next episode: Last Hour to Doomsday

Lacking the patience of Sun Tzu's DNA, the newly created Serpentor accepts a challenge from Sgt. Slaughter that ultimately allows him to escape with the Joe rescue team. As they report news of Serpentor back to Joe HQ, Serpentor denies any need for background information or strategy and immediately launches an attack on Washington, D.C., against the advice of Cobra's leadership.

Cobra's all-out assault gives them the capital, but the President is out of town. When the President does arrive, he turns out to be Hawk in disguise, and his reveal triggers a counterattack by the Joe Team. Cobra summons reinforcements, but the Joes' training and Cobra's lack of adequate fuel and supplies forces Cobra into retreat. Serpentor escapes with the help of Cobra Commander, who survives only by agreeing to be the scapegoat for Serpentor's hidden weaknesses and failings.
