Notes: DiC's Sludge Vipers wore the 1991 outfit. Regardless of whether episodes are ordered by air date or production date, Sludge Vipers were seen working for Cobra before they were introduced as Cesspool's personal soldiers. Also, when Eels appeared in Messenger from the Deep, animators used the Sludge Viper model with added red flippers.

Sludge Vipers were introduced to Cobra's forces in early 1988, with their appearance represented by Version 1. Their numbers consisted of Cesspool's personal soldiers, put through Cobra training, plus the most skilled Toxo-Vipers whose infractions left them unworthy of promotion back to ordinary Viper status. Sludge Vipers thus ranked in the lowest tier of Vipers, alongside Toxo-Vipers and Desert Scorpions.

The SLUDGE VIPER never runs out of ammo, since his sludge gun has a built-in decomposition accelerator which can create toxic sludge out of whatever is at hand, and propel it at lethal velocities with the noxious methane gases given off by the decomposition process. The sludge gun features a laser range finder, third generation image intensifier optics, and a phased magnetic array, sludge guidance system.
"The last thing you want is to get hit with a full load of weapons-grade sludge travelling at high velocity. Even if you're sporting an armored, solvent-resistant, hostile environment suit, this stuff will still knock you down and commence to dissolve you. Your only defense against the Sludge Viper is to try to hit his sludge gun, hopefully splattering him with his own sludge because the stuff is just as dangerous to HIM as it is to US!"
Toy Notes: Features a temperature-based color change. Item #6820. In the 1991 insert catalog, concept art appears instead of the actual figure.
