Episode 133: "The Times They Are a Changeling"

Aired 8/20/2016, written by Kevin Burke & Chris "Doc" Wyatt (their first episode),
with Mike Vogel also contributing to the story (his fifth episode)
Quick Take: An incredible take on the show's running theme of redemption, harking back to Star Trek's tradition of showing us at least one good member of every hostile enemy race. It's touching, it addresses the conflicting emotions, it has all the characters reacting realistically, and it has a tremendous song, sung by Spike of all characters! Spike really comes into his own here, and he shows himself a hero by admitting he isn't one. Owning his mistake is a major step up for him, and forces Twilight to admit her own prejudices. My only criticism is that despite the song's title line, "a Changeling can change," Thorax seems to have been friendly all along; it would have helped to have a shot of him reluctantly stealing love from somepony during the flashback. But that's really only a technicality. What's important here is that Spike has helped a Changeling fully defect and be accepted by the Equestrian leadership. One of MLP's very best stories.
