Quick Take: I won't go off on too long a rant here, but my objection to this episode basically has to do with character: the three featured ponies are less friendly and understanding than even their first-season selves, and the reconciliation rings false since it's so immediate and overly "cute." Also, I usually enjoy the "Rashomon"-Style story structure, but this is how not to do it, as most of the discrepancies in the flashbacks aren't resolved, and surely at least one of the ponies would have noticed the other two weren't getting along. To top it off, the sea serpent solution comes totally out of left field and makes no sense, even when explained. MLP's surprises usually leave me thinking, "Boy, that was a neat little twist." This time my thought was, "I refuse to accept that you just did that to My Little Pony." Nearly all TV series have the occasional stinker, so it says a lot that six seasons in, this is MLP's first straight-up bad episode. My new least-favorite. One positive thing I'll mention is in the beginning of Act One: The pets' delivery of the letters was adorable, definitely the bright spot in the episode.
