Quick Take: An incredible outing, the best so far to focus on Spike. It's the whole series in a nutshell, as well as everything we'd hoped Dragon Quest had been, back in season 2. Garble works better here, too, as a straight-out villain who gets a hilarious comeuppance. Here he's a foil to Ember, a positive but realistically conflicted example of a teen dragon, and Garble's rejection of friendship adds weight and balance to Ember's choice in favor of Spike. If we ever see a "Battle of the Five Armies" two-parter, expect to see her leading the dragons to fight alongside the ponies of Equestria. High praise.
