|Quick Take: In short, this is The Mysterious Mare Do Well done well. Granted, the lesson is different (and a remarkably consistent sequel of sorts to the first act of Griffon the Brush-Off), but there are undeniable parallels as the friends use a ruse to teach Dash a lesson. Here, the trickery has a poetic justice to it, pranking the prankster, and it is the last resort after multiple attempts to reason with Dash merely propel her to more outrageous behavior. Dash herself is perfectly in character here, as her comfort with conflict makes it hard for her to empathize with the reactions of Fluttershy and the others. Pinkie's paradoxical insensitivity and cooperative nature make her the appropriate mediator. Besides the excellent atmopshere and music, this episode's real strength lies with how well the grand hoax is pulled off. In most children's shows, we get bad acting and obvious fakes to tip off younger viewers that there's scheming going on (see Spike at Your Service). But this episode, much like Scare Master last season, lets the characters be skilled in their performance. My verdict: A thrilling comedy piece on par with Party Pooped and MMMystery on the Friendship Express.
